Here in Minnesota we have the grackles and red winged black birds. Just south of us there are yellow headed black birds. During the grackles flight South in October I would sit out on the deck and watch them fly in the same flight path every night. Thousands of them would fly across my back yard during the evening hours. If it was legal I would have liked to take some pot shots at them with the shotgun.

Not much water in the river but it is still flowing. There are several lakes to the west of us and many gravel pits along the bottoms that are water jetted often enough to be ice free mostly so there is room for many birds.
I haven’t cooked a goose; yet. Have 3 domestics in a pen fattening but haven’t gotten the go ahead to dress one so...
Kind of old school here with a gas range. Will be doing a ham and a beef roast tomorrow, yum.

You’re very fortunate; this is how the conversation usually goes:

“You take them.”

“No, you take them.”

“But I took them last time.”

“That’s OK. Take them anyway.”

“I’d rather not.”

“But I insist.”

“I’ll be glad to take them if you all don’t want ‘em.”

Drying them out too much is the easy part. I’ve never done them on a rotisserie, I bet that would work b/c they are so lean. Wonder if anyone has tried to brine them before cooking? Delicioso!

I keep a rolled up newspaper on the deck and bang it against the deck cover post(sounds like a gun shot) to scare them off.....

I hope Santa brings you a Red Ryder BB Air Gun that shoots BB’s and hollow-points, but only if that would make you happy. ;>)

Say, eastforker... are you following all the recent reports of ‘birdfalls’ and fish dieoffs?

Yes I have. The fish kills don’t bother me so much, that happens on a regular basis so to speak, lots of variables could come into play. The bird kills is a whole nother scenario. Could be an eradication of some sorts by government agencies to control overpopulation, then again it could be something else all together.Watching it closely to see if any pattern emerges and hoping it is nothing sinister.

Thanks!

I was doing a search, both on fish and on BIRDS and was quite surprised to see your posting from last month.

Used to see flocks bigger than that in New England in the spring with Grackles.

South Carolina of my youth used to see flocks of Cedar Waxwings as big as that.

Maybe it was a Beta test of the Rapture.

They must be pretty smart birds considering how you got them all to line up so straight.
