The "Big Ten" will have twelve teams, while the "Big Twelve" will have ten. That's nuts.

But even the division line-ups are screwy. What would make sense is East and West (even the time zones would make sense), as follows:

The western six: Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Illinois

The eastern six: Indiana, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State

The "Big Ten" gets an "F" in Arithmetic and Geography.

An “F” in football too - the most successful Big 10 team (OSU) has a 0-9 record in bowl games against serious opposition (SEC).

They were trying for competitive balance rather than geography.

The names are crap, but it is a good idea to have several strong schools in each division.
