You know the nice part about warming up your car in winter? It’s warmed up. Don’t care if it helps the engine, it helps the DRIVER, driving in an icebox sucks.

Amen! Heck, I live in southern Arizona, and I warm up my car in winter - for ME! To hell with the engine...

I agree. I never even thought of warming up the engine to make IT feel comfortable.
I warmed it up to make ME feel comfortable.
I no longer worry about it, as I have no car, and live in the tropics of the Pacific.

I vaguely recall reading about add-ons like an electric oil pump. It's
hooked up to the "accessory" circuit on the ignition, so you can
wait a couple of seconds for the oil to start flowing before you
start the engine, and it continues to flow for say two minutes
after the ignition is cut off.

You think something so simple would be easy to understand...
Also, fogged up windows are a road hazard.

Mechanic friend of mine says the same thing:
Better for the machine to wear-and-tear.
"I don't care 'bout the machine's
feelings. FIRE THEM HEAT'S UP! Get that blower
going! I'm
cold..."
Clearly there are several issues at play:
- personal interests:
- comfort
- meachanical preservation
- environmental
