Okay. According to the DOI, God gave all men equally right to Liberty.
On what basis then can any government legimately deprive some men of Liberty?
According to the DOI, God gave all men equal right to liberty, but does God say that?
No, quite the opposite is true. If you look at what God grants to all men, it can be summed up as life and a chance to serve and give glory to God, even if it results in death. I in no way think that liberty is not a great blessing, but it’s not an automatically God-granted right, it’s a blessing.
The government legitimately deprives people of liberty all the time. For that matter, the government legitimately deprives people of their life (death penalty, abortion). The issue with slavery is in the moral realm.
You can curse the Southern planter from now to eternity about the moral aspect of enslavement but you can't question it's legality.
But before we unleash a torrent of oaths on the South let's refresh our memories of the northern involvement in slavery.
