Reduction in alimony/support is rare to be granted, and is extremely slow to be granted. Your best bet is to contact your spouse, explain the situation, and work out something with her, perhaps her giving you a rebate back on the money that you can use to pay your taxes.

As far as the court's concerned, if you're eating more than raman for every meal, driving a car, etc, you've obviously got the money to pay this stuff, and you can just keep on paying until they get around to reviewing it.

file another petition and keep doing it until you get a hearing
those people are good for nothing ass holes

They dont care if they send you to jail for not paying, even if you CANT pay (lost job, or less paying job)

they dont care if your children starve if you go to jail and can pay nothing

Moleman,

I was laid off in 2008 and told my ex about it. She went ballistic of course. Then my Father told her about Social Security Disability income that included a lot of stuff that she wanted.

Imagine my surprise when she emailed me saying 'Don't pay any more Alimony'! I managed to get her to notarize a copy of her Email and get her attorney involved. So as long as I am unemployed - No Alimony!

So the Bottom Line is - If you are UNEMPLOYED AGAIN, seek cessation of Alimony then. Regards, SR

in nj you don’t need a lawyer you can go to probate court and do it there for the cost of fees, but indeed it is hard to do. my hubby was out of work for a year (no income) and then for the last year has been getting and new business going which is improving but hard. so, for two years he has made less than 20 percent of what his alimony is based on and they will not reduce it...do?lt get your hopes up...the courts like indentured servitude and this “private” form of wealth redistribution
