Perfectly profitable non-union companies moved their production to China.
Japan was the source of cheap, unreliable crap in the 60s and 70s, and now look at them. What would have happened if they used trade policy to protect their monopoly on dollar-store squirtguns?
There are thousands of industries that have flourished in the US only to move elsewhere when our country's economy improved and evolved. Are you upset that the sweatshop manufacture of sneakers moved to China? Painting of mass produced toys?

It is really hard as a conservative to criticize the great unwashed in this country for being “lazy” when we outsource production and have an open border with Mexico.
