As one who has worked on Apple stuff before esp the Macbooks, they are very tricky to work on!!

In the Mac notebook the screws are so tiny and they had so many different types in there that a swiss watch was a cakewalk by comparison!! The data cables has less than 5mm of extra length to make the connection from one end to another and after completing the job it makes you want to work on any other types of laptops rather than this one!!

As far as Steve Jobs changing the screws from a Philips to a new security head screw I have this comment "Hey he's been screwing people around for so long now that he feels safe in doing it again"

"If you took your car in for service and they welded your hood shut, you wouldn't be very happy,"

GM used to use torx screws on the headlight trim to 'encourage' folks to pay dealer prices to replace a burned out headlight. You could switch out a Chrysler of the same era with an ordinary phillips head.

I am by no means a fan of the cult around Apple, but I think this is absolutely hilarious.

Apple may just as well have announced a contest to techies the world over to make and sell an economically priced tool to accommodate this new screw.

My guess is the tool and die work is already done, a prototype has already been made, and production is about to begin.

Watch eBay for “pentalobe” listings. They'll make great birthday presents for anyone who owns an iPhone.

I just use a middle of the lineup Trackfone.

Was $20 NEW at Walmart.

Does all that I need, when its obsolete or problematic it gets tossed in the garbage.

Probably my third or fourth generation of the Trackfone.

I don’t understand the controversy. If your iPhone stops working, just take it to Apple and have it fixed or replaced. If it’s more than a few years old, then its a good excuse to buy a newer model with all the bells and whistles.

The screws are tamper proof. Not unremoveable. Big difference. And not a huge obstacle to a determined and resourceful iPhone owner.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

When in doubt, drill it out. And besides, soon enough someone will be making the screwdriver for it...

But thanks anyway... making it hard to open will just bring the business to guys like me, who can pop that phone like a grape for a minimal charge.
