UNIONTOWN, Pa. -- A woman in Fayette County said police used her dog for target practice when she called them for help.

Elizabeth D'Auria said she and her sister found their two-year-old pit bull dead after calling 911 for help.

"They shot him six times with a pistol and once with a shotgun. They took the dog and we asked them if we could have him back to bury him and they won't give him back to us," said D'Aurio.

Channel 11's Courtney Brennan contacted Uniontown police who did not wish to comment on the story.

Way to build confidence with the public, even if this was a pit bull.

What is it, exactly, with police and dogs?

This created a huge uproar and rightfully so. I have no desire to live in a nation where we the people and our pets are looked upon as disposable, and where the mission statement “protect and defend” are just BS words.

Correction: “There are too many COPS out there that aren’t people friendly.”

Shame on her for expecting the police to do anything differently than what they did. If I call the police, it’s only to pick up a dead robber and my dog is put away. God Bless Texas!

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

All the cops I see these days are wearing boots not flip flops. There’s not too many dogs that won’t roll over when you crack the dog a good one upside the head and if needed give it a good kick in the ribs.

I’ve been around some pretty nasty dogs in my 60+ years. If one comes running up to you barking and snarling, shove your gun into his mouth and kick him one in the guts. Their normal reaction is to turn and run about twenty feet away. Then they’ll turn around and look to see just what the hell didn’t run from them like every other time they attacked a person. Biting down on blued steel isn’t something a dog will do twice.

I have never killed a dog that was attacking me nor have I run from it either. Maybe it just the ornery side of me but I figure if I can face down bulls then fuzzy dogs aren’t going to win the fight.

If you call a cop to your house, you should have your dog under control when they arrive. End of story,

In that story, one dog attack another, the dog that did the attack was put down. By the other dog owner. The dog that was attack was on a leash, the dog that was put down was running free and out of control. Not hard to understand.

I haven't trusted a cop in decades due to a bad experience with one.

I was born at the tail end of the baby boomer generation and my Dad taught me how to act around and react to a strange and/or aggressive dog. He taught me how to read their body language and weather or not they could be approached and petted. (Even as a very young child I was dog crazy and wanted to pet any that I encountered.)

Its been my experience that succeeding generations haven't been taught by their parents how to behave around or read the signals that dogs give off.

Also, should my dog (who is the most people friendly dog I've ever known) ever be killed by a cop. God help him or her. I'll bankrupt this city.
