Ted Williams -- the homeless man with the "Golden Voice" -- has left rehab against medical advice, less than two weeks after checking in for drug and alcohol dependency ... TMZ has learned.

Our sources say Ted -- who decided to go to rehab earlier this month after a taping of the Dr. Phil show -- left the Origins Recovery Center in South Texas moments ago and is on his way to the airport.

Ted's girlfriend is currently in rehab at the Safe Harbor facility in Costa Mesa, California.

Story developing...

Homelessness is, plainly put, a mental illness. ?????

Maybe believing that is a mental illness as well.

I will go out on a limb and assume that when you think “Rehab” you think of where a celebrity goes when the SHTF.

You would be out on that limb a long time.

I'm thinking of thirty days at "West Oaks at Cypress Creek"
wasting time sitting in "group" and listening to meaningless blather.

It may help some folks, I'm sure it does.

My impression, however, was that of meaningless whiny blather.

PJ, you might be on to something here...’Celebrity Panhandler’ might give American Idol a run for the money.

Well that was the problem. Cypress Oaks sucks. You needed to go to Ridgeview in Atlanta! Their meaningless blather was GREAT! Kinda like Genuine Frontier Gibberish.

I was impressed with the food.
We got bussed to AA meetings every night and those were actually comical.

Ultimately, it did nothing for me except sour me on “talk”.

I outgrew the drugs some years later.
The alcohol.. not so much.

But the stuffed pork chops were the bomb.

Howard Stern did a gig on his show called “Homeless Hollywood Squares”. The winner got a shopping cart full of empty aluminum cans.

I just got my 1 year chip in Al-Anon this past weekend.

My marriage disintegrated because of my ex-wife’s alcoholism and addiction to prescription pills. We were only married a year and a half—she spend the last year of it in detox centers, rehab, and halfway houses. She was able to get sober, but couldn’t keep sober. Her longest dry spell was 3 months, and then things would fall apart. The consequences got worse each time.

Now that we are divorced, she has stayed sober for nearly 7 months. Both she and I are in a better place. I finally realized that my love for her was not the right kind, and I was being selfish by trying to hold our crumbling marriage together. She can become the woman she is capable of—without me. When I was there she could always count on me to catch her—now she must stand on her own feet, or kiss the pavement.

I love her, and always want the best for her, but I finally realized even love has its limitations, and that it cannot save someone.

I went to Ridgeview in Atlanta 5 years ago. It worked for me, and I have been clean since. However my life was really out of control. If it hadn’t been, I would still be drinking and drugging. It’s a simple as that. But it took me 35 years to get there.

My life is so much better because I don’t now. I have so much more time on my hands. It was surprising to me how much time the drinking took, as well as the ass-covering and headache-recovering.

However, if I thought I could drink like a normal person, I would. But I can’t. It is what it is.

Ah,the sad brotherhood of pistachio addiction.

INDICATIONS OF PISTACHIO ADDICTION
***********************************

1.) Have you ever eaten pistachios until your fingrnails bleed, and you can no longer retrieve items from your trouser pockets?

2.) Do people stare at you when you are eating pistachios, wondering how can eat all of them?

3.) Do you have to frequently empty (more than three times) a large bowl of pistachio shells at one sitting?

4.) When you are in a store, are you drawn hypnotically to the shelves that contain large varieties/quantities of pistachio nuts as your spouse pulls at your jacket?

5.) Do loved ones ever take your un-emptied bag away from you to try and protect you from yourself?

6.) Do you have special tools to open the ones that cannot be opened by fingers or by crushing gently between molars?

7.) Have you ever poured the remenants at the bottom of the pistachio bag into your mouth, squinting at the saltiness, while expertly and accurately separating out shell fragments while doing a complicated task?

8.) Do you rejoice at finding naked, shell-less pistachios in the bag, eating them with relish like a rare prize, yet are repelled by the concept and sight of a container of pre-shelled pistachios?

9.) Are you able to navigate complicated expressway onramps at rush hour while traveling 75 mph while shelling and eating pistachios?

10.) Does your car contain pistachio shells in hidden places, no matter how carefully or how often it is cleaned?

11.) Do you ever look carefully at a pistachio lying on the floor next to your computer chair, and do a mental calculation of how long it has been there and whether it is still edible?

12.) Have you ever called the Dole Hotline to ask them why some pistachio nuts are white, some are green, some are red, and some are uncolored?

13.) Does your heart swell with joy when you are given a gift in wrapping paper, and you immediately can tell as soon as your fingers touch the gift wrapping that inside is a five pound back of pistachio nuts?

14.) Do you line up your children and ask them to expose their hands in order to determine who has eaten your pistachio nuts?

Charter Peachford rocks, but for Teryaki Mahi-Mahi for lunch, nothing beats Ridgeview.

I’m predicting that Ted Williams becomes the announcer for the Howard Stern show with the caveat that he will be fired if he ever swears off booze and drugs. And, no, I am NOT kidding. I think this will actually happen.
