Richard Jefferson renewed his contract with the Spurs last summer.

For 15 million dollars less.

The Spurs entered into a bad agreement in 2009. And Jefferson under-whelemed everyone.

The funny thing is... He agreed to renew for less money in order to guarantee a longer option. And guess what? This year his stats are way up.

Don’t worry you not going to get the $12 million, Obama is going to take it. He’ll distribute it for you.

Who DOES deserve it then?

There are millions of dollars to be had, because people tune in to watch, and then watch the accompanying advertisements, and people pay for tickets to watch the game in person, etc, etc.

So with millions of dollars up for grabs, because people are willing to spend millions of dollars watching (or advertising for those who watch) baseball, WHO should get the money?

Should the TV stations get it?

Should the team owner get it?

Should the coach get it?

Someone is going to get that money? Who do YOU think it should be?

I think an athletes should get as much as the market can bear. Someone has to get the money, why not the talent that puts the butts in the seats?

What’s most shocking about this is how shocking it is to hear from someone with actual integrity.

I remember reading that when Steve Young was the San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback (behind Joe Montana) he had a drawer full of literally hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of uncashed paychecks. He didn’t feel like he had earned the money.

I think $12 million is about equal to the total payroll for all of the Padres.

I am reminded of what my wife always told our kids:

“You dont get extra credit for doing the right thing.”

This guy did the right thing. Good for him, but should we really be surprised? That is where the true shame is.

Well I think he probably wishes he earned it.

He’s a guy who cannot look himself in the mirror and be right with himself if he doesn’t think he has earned it. It’s his own conscience and self-worth.

I am glad there are people that listen to their consciences like this. But face it, he couldn’t live well if he didn’t do this. It was obviously bugging him real bad. It’s the only thing he could have done to make it right and make his personal life, liveable.

I got a kick out of Roger Goodell who is the head of the National Football League. They are in negotiations with the players union and if there is a strike, he said he’d take a salary of only $1.00. What I find hillarious is that he earned $10 MILLION last year so even if they are on strike for a year, his average salary over the 2 years is $5,ooo,ooo.50
Gee thanks Roger for taking the sword....
