The legend of the Alaskan bush pilot is infused with feats accomplished in aircraft that are rarely seen anywhere else. We have all seen the videos of pilots landing on sand bars and in tight tree-lined mountainous areas. Each year at the Valdez Fly-In and Air Show they celebrate the tradition and skill of the bush pilot with the Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) competition.

It's amazing how far STOL (Short Take Off & Landing) aircraft have progressed. This video is an interesting compilation of the competition held annually in Valdez Alaska.

I don't know about that. Parts might be hard to find but certainly a great STOL aircraft.

I'm leaning more toward sport or experimental aircraft for a number of reasons even though I currently own a certified bird.

I've been seriously looking at the Bearhawk. Might as well have the capability to carry four instead of just two.

It’s a Wilga. I think it’s a Polish aircraft. Good for towing gliders.

Thank you so much for posting this video. It is better than last year’s competition video.

I can make a short field landing in my Citation in just as short a distance as these bush pilots can. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to use the airplane again.

Well, I haven’t done it yet, but I fly four legs tomorrow, so there is still a chance.

Sounds like you need something besides a citation. I don't think it has a strong following among bushpilots. I bet it's hard to land on skis!

Do not believe ithis one is.
From what I’ve been told there are three in existance.
Fellow named Herman owns the one I’ve seen and it is Army green,

I bet somewhere there are stories of these planes in South America. It seems like it would have been perfect for servicing the river towns.

They were of course military and I think it would be right enjoyable to read their logs.
Herman has a T-6 he flys often and a P-51 that has been going through a complete rebuild at Indiantown Airport for 11 years now.

We were shown that video in a Citation ground school. Salt water caused the contacts to the starters to be made, causing the engines to spool up.
