I suspect the Peruvians keep him alive because his trial has yet to come and because he’s a foreigner. His Peruvian victim was the daughter of a prominent citizen so he’ll get his desserts for sure.

Joran van der Sloot’s father is a judge and that's why the Natalie Holloway investigation never went anywhere. However, van der Sloot screwed-up by killing Stephany Flores. Several major mistakes: 1) He was in Peru where daddy has no influence; 2) Flores’ father is well-connected to the Peruvian government.

Van der Sloot really condemned himself to a prison hell for however long is miserable life might be. This is the best kind of justice — where the criminal selects is own punishment. Van der Sloot isn't getting out of this intact or alive. The clock is ticking and he's about out of luck.
