Warning: The Cop's response contains an expletive that some Freepers may find offensive.

Police Officer Richard Chrisman has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon... It should be murder.

As to the question at the end of why the cop was not charged with murder. That is simple. He is a cop. He will say he felt threatened. He may even be back to work in a few months.

Sick. I’ve read so many stories of cops coming to homes and basically the first thing they do is shoot the dog, for no reason. In several instances they actually chased down the dog in the house and shot it after it was cowering under a bed (it happened in some mayors house, wrong house later found out). To me, a cop shows up at my house the first thing I do is get my dog.

Some thoughts:
A) Nothing in this story indicates the man performed any of the extremely subjective “Domestic violence” classification of behaviors.
B) The officer should be facing MURDER charges, not aggravated assault charges or at the very least 1st degree manslaughter.
C) This illustrates the ever increasing in power but not liability police state we are entering into.
Sad.

I know this has nothing to do with the story, but why don’t they ever shoot the cat?

That’s a very conservative prognostication. He’ll probably receive some form of commendation and a pay raise. After all, he’ll need to compensated for his heroism and judicious use of ammunition, not to mention the mental anguish he had for murdering and unarmed fief.

He probably senses that the natives are getting restless at this type of behavior. People have had enough.

Police officer Richard Chrisman has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after fatally shooting 29-year-old Daniel Rodriquez.I wonder if Daniel Rodriquez would have been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon if he fatally shot police officer Chrisman?

Yeah and reputations get around fast, and the other cop is probably thinking he’s not going to take a bullet for some unstable loose cannon. I don’t blame him.
