Vanity: Needing help with an election slogan
just me needing help

Posted on 02/17/2011 12:26:42 PM PST by getmeouttaPalmBeachCounty_FL

Dear Freepers,

My daughter is planning to run for student council after spring break. This will be her third school election. She's been a member of her student council during her 8th and 9th grade years, and would like to take this on during the next school year in 10th grade.

Where she's at is here...she is wanting to do a giant poster of a word cloud using words similar to this:

Photobucket

She has to come up with a slogan, and place it somewhere on her poster. She then needs to tie her slogan into her speech. She and I have come up with some ideas for the speech - Touching upon how she hears every day on the local news about campaign promises that are not met; lack of integrity in people in government who serve. Since she loves history classes and listening to political radio like Mark Levin ([[[[patting self on back]]]]), she feels she challenges herself to walk the walk...oh, and especially since her daddy just retired from the Marines.

I should also mention she attends a Christian school, so she will likely include 1 John 3:18 NIV, "Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." She is a really good kid, too. She's seen as a leader in the school, and she's just a Freshman. Straight As, full Honors schedule, involved, kind, polite, athlete, volunteers for teachers, welcomes new students, involved in nearly all school service projects and was recently elected as a leader of the student service organization (the only Freshman) and she is in charge of the website for the segment of our school capital campaign which is run by student leaders (identified by the principal).

She also likes this verse:

"He taught me and said, 'Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live.'" Proverbs 4:4 NIV

I know FReepers are creative and bright and come here with tons of varying gifts. If you can offer some advice, tips and ideas, I will pass them on to my daughter. If you are drawing a blank and have read this far, will you at least give this a bump for more exposure? I'd appreciate it very much.

Thank you. You guys are awesome :)

Well, she just thought it might look cool up on the hallway wall.

I suggested plastering her face on an Energizer bunny using “She’ll keep going, and going, and going...” but she didn’t go for it.

Back to the word cloud, I think she thought it was “current.” Most of her friends are on their computers on Facebook, Skype, etc, so she thought it would relate.

I don’t know that there will be that many students running, however, she has mentioned she heard some kids talking about how it might look good on college applications. Yuh think?

Have you done this before?

My first campaign I worked on before I could vote years back was for Ron Paul. He was no different back then than he is now. The guy has never changed and never will. With that said the idea of him being president is kind of scary:)

I've worked on all sorts of local campaigns. City council, county commissioner, etc. Have built web sites for them and even for a buddy running for congress.

I like her "poster". It would be cool on a web page with every element being a hyperlink to underlying content. IE: You click on "experience" and a page with her past experience comes up, etc. As far as a campaign poster though? Too busy. Posters and campaign signs should be short, sweet and have the name and position in the biggest letters possible. And be red, white and blue.

I see she is going to be in 10th grade. Something using that number might be cool. "Maggie - A Perfect Ten", "Maggie - #10!", "Maggie - Vote Her In - She is Running for 10!", "Maggie - Vote Her In for 10!" Or, maybe not:)

You could do all sorts of things. Setup a text number on her poster. Something like "TEXT YOUR SUPPORT TO 12345" and have some kind of response that shows a short list of her positions or ideas. Kids like that kind of stuff. Then you have their numbers so you can "remind" them who to vote for and when. Or push them to a Facebook page or whatever.

Always campaign like you are losing and are going to lose but act like you are winning or going to win. And never forget that all politics is bare knuckled WAR! We forgot that in this country. The Republicans have especially after the last election. What they should be doing is ripping the throats out of the Democrats (no literally). Never give an inch. Take the offensive and be aggressive with a smile. If I was in charge I'd have every Republican and Tea Party person in Congress or running for any position to sit in a room and watch NJ Chris Christie videos. Not for what he says but how he says it. The style and attitude.

I predict that we are going to see more politicans that are successful because they appear to be "heroic". Because they do not back down while pointing out how powerful their opposition is on certain topics. Public employees and unions are ripe for this. Simply because they are big, powerful and grossly overpaid. They are the new "wealthy" or what Obama calls "people making over $250,000".

America is swinging harder and harder to the right. This movement is being pushed not by the supposed "haves vs have nots" but by the "works vs works nots". The "works" as I call them are a big and powerful group and they are tired of their pockets being picked.

Oops... Sorry for the rant...

Walk(ing?) the Talk is short, to the point and inspirational for the voters and the candidate.

It’s not a rant. The link thing would be cool to do, but we’re not doing a web page. Great idea! Like the text stuff, too. Hmmmm. Daughter gets home in an hour. Can’t wait to show her all the ideas...and the funny tips!
