A 265-pound Queens man was arrested by the ASPCA Friday for fatally beating his 8-pound Chihuahua.
The tiny pooch, named Spotye, was so severely injured he had to be euthanized.
Jerry Melendez, 33, was charged with felony animal cruelty after ASPCA investigators determined the pup suffered a fractured skull caused by blunt force impact and a hemorrhage in his left eye.
A necropsy also showed the dog had blood in his abdominal cavity.
The 5-year-old Chihuahua was brought to a veterinarian on Feb. 10 and was treated for seizures and head trauma, according to ASPCA Assistant Director Joseph Pentangelo.
The doctor contacted the ASPCA, which conducted an investigation including a necropsy of the dog's body.
If convicted, Melendez faces up to two years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
I’ll even go buy new bats.
Good thing I don’t live anywhere near this POS, or I’d be in jail myself tonight.
I own an 8 pound chihuahua, a shelter rescue. So you wouldn’t be in jail, me, my boyfriend and my son would totally alibi you.
What a disturbing image. We as a society should be horrified by this action. The next stage for such a person is to throw their rage at a human being.
Poor baby! The photo shows the face of a little creature with such a betrayed and futile look on its face. I just want to take it in my arms and sit in a rocking chair and comfort and love it. - As human beings, we have a certain responsibility to behave in a humane way toward the animals which we have been given dominion over in God’s creation. - The anger of man does not work the righteousness of God; we need to remember. Lord help us! What is this world coming to?
Yep. Scary.
Thank you!
By the way, the dip was wonderful! ;)
