SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- A Cypress man was sentenced on Tuesday to 25 years to life in prison after being convicted in the murder of his 2-year-old niece.
Michael David Balderas, 33, did not make a statement before Judge William Froeberg handed down his punishment. He was found guilty of second-degree murder and child assault causing death on Jan. 25.
Authorities say Balderas had received custody his niece, identified as Baby Jo Jade, because his sister was preparing to serve a federal prison sentence. Balderas physically abused the child between January and March of 2006, prosecutors said.
Jo Jade bled to death on March 30, 2006, after Balderas repeatedly beat her with his hand and belt.

God bless the poor child who never had a chance and experienced terror. I don't understand why the perp doesn't get the death sentence and prompt arrival at his sure destination.
He will serve time with lots of men with children who live in lousy neighborhoods, populated with creeps just like him.
These men cannot protect their own children from abusers like this guy.

I shouldn’t have read further. What’s worse, is that as a child killer, this guy won’t even do hard time. He’ll probably never make parole, but he’ll spend the rest of his life sequestered with other child rapist/killers feeding their mutual fantasies far away from the general population.

I don't know. I am without explanation for this travesty of justice. We have apparently abandoned any pretense of civilization.
