I have to disagree with you on ‘Supper’s Ready’. The original Foxtrot version was, IMO, untoppable.
Most Genesis purists do. I’ve heard other Collins versions and they don’t measure up to the original, mostly because Steve Hackett wasn’t there. His guitar makes the Seconds Out version almost as much as Collins’ vocals. My only minor quibble with the original is that it sounds slightly rushed in comparison.
I love that there are two, very different, completely amazing versions of it out there. There will never be another piece of contemporary music like that again. We’re fortunate to be able to appreciate it.
I have to agree that Phil's version was better. Pete was really straining to hit those high notes at the end. But also, the band, especially Tony's keyboards were light years ahead on Seconds Out, than in the early days.
