Just walked the dogs out to The Back Forty. There was a lot of cloud cover on the horizon, but a lot more light than usual behind it. Once the moon breeched the clouds, you could actually SEE it gaining altitude, which was pretty cool. :)
It was bigger and brighter than usual. I didn’t need the LED flashlight on the walk back because the moon gave off enough light to see by.
Impressice, but not the BEST moonrise I’ve seen. I’ll report back on what it looks like when it sets in the morning; I’ll be up for that, as usual. :)

Kind of hard to gauge apparent size without knowing the reference points. Also kind of hazy. Maybe I'll try again in the morning if I feel like getting out there.
And a two minute exposure down the lake for the heck of it.

WooHoo! My parents used to dance to that tune on our living room floor at the time when we were growing-up. Great song and great memories for me.

Hmmm..checking that made me realize that in a couple of hours or less when the moon is near zenith it >might< be viewable on
the webcam at my apartment. First problem is that when I just checked there is an anomaly that hasn't been there before. It's a bright light off to the left. Most likely a piece of dirt or moisture on one of the infra red LED's for night vision. Have to wait until I get home after midnight to check that out.
Second problem is that it's a remote controllable webcam so visitors can pan and tilt it. It's usually pointed at the thermometer but I moved it almost all the way up and to the right to get a (limited)view of the night sky. you may have to move it around.
I have taken pics of the moon with it before and they're OK for a camera of that kind. Interesting but not great.
if anyone wants to check it out click on the link above and log in with username "operator" and there is no password so just press "enter." Then you will have to select your browser. The first choice is for IE but requires active x installed.
The second choice is for FF, Chrome or other browsers and should need nothing.
Feel free to check it anytime. It pans across our deck with a view into our apartment around the parking area and into the owoods. You might even catch me or Mrs p6 in our skimpies...be forewarned, LOL!
The Move Along Nothing To See Here cam.
It's named that because we live in the complex where several scenes from Silence Of The Lambs was filmed. The wall along the parking area is where Buffalo Bill takes a victim.

Looking out the windows of a no lights on bus looking at the moon has to be a very difficult ride for the Pitt basketball team tonight from DC.
