The Libyan, er, ‘Rebels’: ‘Now, the time of jihad has arrived!’

Why do intervention proponents insist on calling them rebels when they call themselves mujahideen -- Muslim warriors fighting a jihad?

At Pajamas, John Rosenthal has details of a report by French jounralist Marc de Chalvron, who was embedded with the Libyan "rebels" before they were turned back by Qaddafi's forces. They refer to their battle as "the jihad" -- Islamic holy war. (At least that's what they interpret jihad to mean. They apparently haven't gotten the memo from Georgetown that jihad is really a peaceful internal struggle for personal betterment, a solemn commitment to brush after every meal, or whatever ISNA is calling jihad this week).

The French report shows the "rebels" proclaiming that "Now, the time of jihad has arrived!" and, of course, screaming, "Allahu Akbar!" as they fire their guns into the air.

But, as Speaker Boehner says, "the United States has a moral obligation to stand with those who seek freedom and self-government for their people." Sure it may be the Islamic notion of freedom (i.e., perfect submission to Allah) and the sharia form of self-government, but hey, details, details. By all means, let's put these guys in charge, the sooner the better.

So who are “we”, i.e. Obama and his clique, actually supporting in this particular little skirmish? When the Iranian people were marching in the streets going up against Ahmanutjob, all you heard from Obama was the sound of crickets chirping. But now, he’s providing air support and sending in cruise missiles to support a group that says, “Now, the time of jihad has arrived!”

What’s not right with this picture?

Another round of global open society social justice disguised as UN driven humanitarian relief and held in place by an islamic caliphate. Next up- Yemen or Bahrain.

American leadership and exceptionalism is long gone.

What’s not right with this picture?

To put it simply: Major Hassan is an American. You're an American. Therefore, you're a jihadist.

It's a simple logical fallacy being similarly employed in the case of the Libyan opposition, which nobody seems bothered enough about to pay any mind to, as criticizing the President is the paramount concern, and figuring out just how many folks the local Al Qaeda affiliate actually has and whether they enjoy any widespread local support is too much damned work.

It’s been said nervously over and over by numerous talking heads in recent days that “we don’t really know who these “rebels” are. Maybe Obama does and that’s why he’s found in Libya the perfect backdoor opportunity to show the rest of the world just how ambiguous the word “democracy” and the concept of “democratic aspirations” can be. I won’t be surprised at all if we wind up greasing the wheels for Radical Islam in Libya. I guess it’s just seen as part of the process of
“winning hearts and minds”-—this time Islamic hearts and minds.
