I don’t know how it works where you are, but I went to the local election’s office when I moved and registered. I am an Independent.
Simply go down there and change your party designation.

I never did know (or remember) how I got classified as a Republican to begin with - thought just my donation to Republican groups got me on their roles. I’ll give your advice a try.
