A friend of mine said I "needed" a Facebook account over a year ago, so I tried it out. So I tried it out and found that most people talked about their inane daily activities. Who cares if they are waiting in an airport or doing laundry? Does anyone else hate being connected all of the time? Not to mention the fact that you will be contacted by people you do not want to hear from anymore. And you must respond. Reject them, or just ignore them. Either way, it is awkward.
If you want to talk about something, start a blog.
If you want to contact me, email me.
I still do not understand the fascination with Facebook (or Twitter)...... and I am someone who grew up in a computer.
Was curious how many other people tried it but dumped it. W
Can you ever really delete a FB Account?
yes
Facebook is a good way for the govt and others to spy on you. The great thing is when idiots say “oh we are taking the kids on a two week vacation.” It is great way to come home to an empty house.
Facebook is for insecure people who want validation - so they can feel like they are somebody.
Yes, facebook is simply a waste of time.
Re: insecure people
Exactly what I found. The inane conversations people have on Facebook would NEVER take place in real life.
That totally shocks me coming from you.
You need to jump through hoops to do it but it can be done.
That is another very annoying thing about Facebook.
By all means. Please just keep it to yourself.
Freeping is all I do online as far as social networking, OK that and email.
I might be (am) old fashioned. I just always thought it odd that people would want to put their lives on FaceBook. I’m too paranoid (hey sometimes they ARE out to get you) and private to do FaceBook.
I have had several friends ask me through email to join FaceBook. I refuse to do so. It’s like a cult.(semi-sarcasm)
I have yet to be assimilated to Facebook even though every holiday my sister tries to push it on me so I can view her photo albums.
Never had an account. Visited one site & thought it a waste of time, but I’m a misanthrope.
I actually like it because I can link youtube videos to it, or articles of a political nature and otherwise. Yeah people do go on about the private lives, and they should be careful:
You go on and say you’re having a great time on vacation...
and when you get home you find your place was robbed. Then
there was the young woman who had a ‘friend’ play a prank on her, saying there was a party at her house and all
were invited...
Of course you’ll find with FB once you post stuff about your politics you’ll find the friends you have who
disagree will get on your case about how silly you are, etc.
But it can be good if done properly.
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is not really deleted, it is deactivated...you can reactivate if you log back on...maybe there is a time limit, say 3 years until they actually delete inactive FB accounts.
It’s also not very dynamic in terms of it’s interface and capabilities.
Want to attach large images in a private message? Forget about doing that.
No, I love mine.
I found a half brother and sister, hooked up with old friends from high school, interact with fellow conservatives, and annoy libtard pages until I get kicked off.
Actually, there is a way to permanently delete it. It is several steps and you cannot log in for two weeks.
But it IS permanent. Not easy though.
They make it far too difficult.
Never had one to delete. Too much like voyeurism.
Good point. I purposely did not get one for a variety of reasons--some are mentioned above. One of those reasons was that I was pretty sure one could not truly delete their account. Has this changed? Still. Even though pretty much everyone I know has a Facebook page I have zero interest. Online I go for complete invisibility. I love it.
It was the farmville posts that finally did it for me.
It depends on how it is used. I don’t join inane conversations and I don’t play the games. I participate in the discussion groups that I find interesting.
I actually like Facebook, but I do understand what you are saying.
For me it is good, because I have a high functioning form of autism (and also am really shy). It allows me to communicate with people that I might normally just avoid or not be able to relate to altogether.
That being said, I cannot believe the things people share on it.
Booo!!!!
I never tried it but had the same conversation about FB with my brother the other night - I don’t see the point of it. Something you want to share - either call or email.
Whaddya mean? FB has its uses.
My nephews wife uses it to beg money and favors from the rest of the family.
I had one. Just used it to play games until I got tired of them. Hardly go there now.
Admittedly, there are good points to FB and you bring up some.
But I am curious how many people have accounts but never really use them. I know of family members who have accounts but never use it.
Curious how much of the 500 million is real?
My guess is not a lot.
yes
I use facebook to keep in touch with my twenty-nothing nieces and nephews. I don’t accept friend requests from anyone other than them. We keep our stuff private. If they want to use another FB account for themselves that’s their business but they understand the family’s position is that we don’t want our family business out on the internet.
I have had accounts on Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter.
I quit the lot of 'em in just a few days.
What a waste.
So I get these e-mails from FB-—so and so wrote on your wall or so and so wants to be your friend. Then when I click on the link it takes me to some other ridiculous, non-related item. It’s a most confusing and annoying site plus its a bit intrusive and don’t want to stay so connected with others from yesteryear. I didn’t delete it but i visit now very rarely.
I HATE IT!!!
I went to a huge dinner party with friends, held in the ballroom of a hotel...get the idea?
Great time, one of my friends took pictures of all of us at different times throughout the evening which I later saw when he he emailed us the pics.
THEN! One of our friends ( not at the party) said, “Hey saw your pics at the party...”.
Sooo, the guy taking the pics put them on HIS Facebook.
There was nothing wrong with the pics, etc...But it just bugged me that I go somehwere, frineds take pics, and BOOM, its on the internet.
With all due respect, with the exception of businesses, organizations promoting ideas or in need of updates etc to specific groups of people and a rare few personality types that enjoy constant socializing, most people that start a Facebook page are just cattle with low self esteem. Go along to get along types. Sadly we are all so easily influenced by friends, families etc, but that it part of what Facebook relies on. I value my privacy and saw this for what it was from the get go and shunned as I have most all marketing strategies that exploits people’s go along to get along weakness. Having written that I do think for some it does have some valuable, redeeming qualities.
I have a FB account and post nothing if any real value..never ever say when I am going to be away from home or anything like that. I have gone so far as to warn one or two friends to be mindful of what they post on FB especially of a political nature. I just keep up with what the kids are doing and now and then find something that is of interest that they are doing..but other than that I agree most of the stuff is just trite crap.
Bravisimo! Best post I've ever seen!
LOL, nailed the attention troll!!!!!
It is good for staying in touch with people who move around a lot, and catching up with those old friends you never wanted to see again...
Oh man thats gonna leave a mark
In Russia, Facebook account deletes YOU.
;-)
heh...have to admit I got one mainly so I could see what the heck everyone was talking about on FB, so I guess that’s a form of voyeurism. I should have put in fake info - I hate the concept of hanging your personal info out there even if only where you went to HS or college. It’s creepy. But it does allow me to read what Sarah Palin and a few other public people post, and that’s about all I use it for.
ZING!
Found a link that does allow you to delete...after 14 days:
https://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account
No facebook.
No cell phone.
I was gonna call my dad on his b-day last week but he was busy having a stent put in. But he called today.
Less and less tv.
Too much time on FR. But there are people here I am very glad I met.
Jim Robinson has a facebook page along with sons John and Chris. David Limbaugh is also one of his friends.
I have an account because some of the posts here lead back to FB.
But the first thing I did when I saw people trying to “friend” me, was to disable all notices and strip my profile down to name only.
I rarely, if ever, go to my homepage for anything.
You nailed it 100%
If I get more than one of those stupid Farmville spams from someone, they get both banished and shunned.
(Nothin' like a good shunning!)
