Yes! It was the biggest waste of time on the planet. When I first clicked on there, I had to sign on. Big mistake. I was trapped! People in husband’s family immediately started “friending” me. Most of them, I never heard from but maybe once or twice if that. Those I “friended” (and there IS a contest for how many “friends” you get) by and large blocked this one and that one. Another way to exclude and snub I suppose. Some things never seem to change. (They COULDA simply declined or ignored my request.) Women would put up photos of their babies and children in “cute” poses that I’m sure pedophiles like. One in the family dressed her grandchild in a sexy red cowgirl outfit and put her in a sorta sexy looking situation. Again, pedophiles.
A friend’s DIL used to post photos of her house and redecorating projects, post her status daily of when they were leaving on a trip, where they were going, when they’d be back. They left on a trip, came home to a burglarized house.
I finally found a way to get out of Dodge and log off. What a relief; and I doubt anyone has noticed in the 8 or 10 months I’ve been off. - It’s an ego trip; all about ME, ME, ME. Some cousins would get on my home page and post obscene language, so I “unfriended” them. Oh, and “Farmville”. What a crock!!
Husband’s brother said it was a good way to keep up with family and post pictures, blah, blah, blah . . . If I’ve got someone’s e-mail address, I can keep in touch with them and they can attach stuff to me, and vice versa.
You’re well rid of it. Breathe a sigh of relief.
I use it to rant politically. The inane daily activity updates drives me crazy. But I’ve drawn a few of my leftist friends out into the open and have had very constructive debates with them. I’ve yet to be unfriended by any of them and I’m very hard on Obama and libs in general. I think I’ve converted some of the fence sitters. Of course they are fence sitters so who knows with them.
I’m proud to say I never started one.
With 700 mill Feisbuk accounts, I treat claims of not having one with a dose of skepticism. Yeah, and you were buying those condoms at 17 “for a friend”.
Facebook is fine.
I just have real friends and family on it. It is convenient.
You can block the game posts and secure your profile so very little can be seen except by your friends.
Though, I never put up posts saying I am away from home. I just post the pictures after I get back...
I got involved with FB because my kids suggested it would be a good way for me to stay in touch with them, exchange photos, chat online without chewing up a lot of bandwidth as AOL demands, and generally see what they’re up to. It mushroomed. It’s fun for all of us and has been great at introducing me to people who have become cherished real-life friends whose goals, values, and interests I share.
If your Facebook friends are posting boring inane stuff, it’s because you chose boring inane friends. Instead, choose people who write interesting things and post articles that can educate you.
I also find that FB is a very valuable marketing tool. I have developed quite a few clients and professional contacts through Facebook.
I’m careful about what I post, write nothing intemperate, and prune my friends list frequently. One always has to be aware that someone might be watching, and avoid scams or hacking. But that’s true of anything on the Internet.
That almost reads like an insult to all FReepers.
I find it useful for political events in my area...also got contacted by long ago friends from grade school and High School.
Love seeing pics of co-workers children and babies I took care of in the NICU.
We are using a FB page to organize a family reunion. Only family members are on it, and it works well to chat and organize.
My personal page has no private info on it. You have no obligation to reveal anything on your page. There are no persons on my friends list that I do not know personally, you have no obligation to “friend” anyone, especially someone that you never liked. I keep track of my kids and family and pages that interest me. It is how you use it. Several of my friends use it to promote their businesses. If it is properly used, it is free advertisement. It is what you make it.
Yeah, but then you probably get on a list as an extremist :)

Yeah, that's all I do. I block the application, and usually end up hiding the person, too.
Even worse that the Farmville/Cityville/Mafia Wars crap is when old friends try to sell things using FB as their vehicle. Man, talk about tackiness.
I've already seen people hawking real estate, mail-order coffee, and various of health products. I'm just waiting for when someone tries to push Amway on the site. Now, that will definitely get someone nuked off of my friend list.
Never had one, never will. The last thing I want to do is post personal information anywhere. H3ll, I don’t even like having a lot number out on the post.

Just keep deleting the things that irritate you. It is a wonderful way to keep up with family and old friends.
No way would I add a casual acquaintance as a “friend”.
Have both twitter and facebook. Never considered dumping either. Manage who I’m friends with and if I’m busy I just don’t check either. Twitter is great for following events in real time. And it’s free. Lots of conservatives post great stuff on twitter.

Dumped mine after two weeks.
I just got rid of mine. I tried it for awhile. Hive mentality is good for bees; humans, not so much. You can discover things you never wanted to know about your friends just by looking at their “likes” (and vice versa)
