Nah, Sid Vicious’ “My Way” was the best, it was the perfect song for the credits of “Goodfellas”

I personally like the Guess Who version, but Lenny didn’t stink it up - he just wasn’t as good.

The stereo separation on Garfunkel’s is especially nice.

This isn't anyone famous, but he does a heck of a cover of Marty Robbins/Clint Eastwood's Honky Tonk Man

Garfunkel’s had that mid 70s feel to it (I was 12 when it was released.)

I think Benson did a superior job ["This Masqeurade"]. Just me.

You're not alone since Benson netted the Grammy for his cover. I'm pushing 70 so my tastes tend toward the more conventional and I found Benson's styling too jazzy. OTOH, I'm aware that the Carpenters are often derided as elevator music. Yet the sweet purity of Karen Carpenter's voice appeals to me.

Here's a few others that may go against the grain of younger FReepers:

Love Portion #9 - I like the remake by The Searchers better than the original by the Clovers. I think the rather spartan guitar licks are what draws me to the remake.

I Almost Lost My Mind - Pat Boone's version is easier on my ears than Ivory Joe Hunter, who wrote and performed it. Note the absence of the /sarc tag. I just like his smooth delivery in his treatment of this, especially Pat's "Boo Hoo" at the very end. Pat Boone made the song accessible to people of my generation. It's a shame that he's not treated as a serious musician by so many. He contributed a great deal to our culture.

I prefer the original “Gloria” by Umberto Tozzi, the original “Crazy” by Seal and the original “Baby I Love Your Way” by Peter Frampton. I like the cover of “Iko Iko” from the movie “Rain Man.” I like both versions of “Do it Again” by Steely Dan and Paul Hardcastle. I like Tom Tom Club’s version of “Under the Boardwalk.”

I thought so too, till my son played them side by side. I now think Lenny Kravitz’s version is the best.

The Carpenters were very talented. My Mom (who passed two years ago at 84) had all their albums. I can listen to them today with fond memories.

Having seen the Guess Who live a few times probably skews my preference.

Got My Mind Set On You......... George Harrison

I never knew that Harrison's version was a remake until this posting confirming once again that FR has the proverbial smartest people in the room regardless of the subject. Politics, guns, finance and music.

I got to like Harrison's version since it was everywhere on the radio in the 80's and it's very catchy. Or as Mr. White of Play-Tone would say:

SNAPPY!

Alone Again Or - The Damned

One of my all-time favorite guitar openings.
