Long sight radius, shooter likely set the Mosin sight on the 300 meter setting, and it worked out for him.
Nice. First shot with it, too. I just picked up a 91/30 a few months back for a song. Glad I did.
That pig needed a .22 in the head, as it was alive when the video ended. If it was going to be the guest of honor at a BBQ, I would think it should have been bled out, a simple task with a vehicle on scene and lots of help to hoist it up.
Like the man in the video said, just nerves, the pig was dead after that up close shot.
At just under $100 a pop, everyone should have a Nagant. I wish I acquired the M44 carbine model when they were so prevailent.
Especially with 7.62x54R around $0.20 per round when you buy the 440 ct spam cans.
The 7.62X54 Russki round is ballistically very similar to the 30-06, so if you can hit it at 300 yards, you can kill it. In fact, like the 30-06, it’s very lethal well out past double that.
Should have shot that thing twice in the head.
You can hear the pig even after taking a slug to the head.
It’s clearly alive.
I like hunting but if an animal is felled and still breathing a hunter has a moral obligation to end it’s misery, quickly.
The canned ammo is ball and much of it with corrosive primers; you can also find hunting ammo in that caliber at gunshows, still very cheap.
The main thing with corrosive ammo, immediately after you have finished shooting, windex and hot water to the barrel and metal parts, then dry. You can shoot corrosive, just have to clean it asap with the right stuff.
Why bother? So simple just not to use corrosive ammo...
The close up shot was a body, not a brain shot, from the appearance of it.
Reflex does occur after brain death, but even a human head is conscious, can hear, and respond with eye blinks for at least 15 seconds after severance from the body.
For that reason, I prefer to use a brain shot on my hunts.
“still breathing” is what I used as determination for another head shot. I would light a smoke and put it in front of his nose. If he inhaled ... BANG
LOL
I’ll use that technique next time.
LOL
No reason it shouldnt work fine if the rifle is clean and functional. The Nagant round is more than powerful enough.
Going hunting with a rifle you’ve never shot ??????
Even feral hogs deserve more humane consideration/preparation than that !! >PS
Just something I found on youtube.....
True you can, but unless you reload you will pay much more and surplus is cheap and cleaning it is not that difficult. To each his own.
Don't ever let anyone tell you that those old mil-surp bolt actions aren't useful. At 100 bucks a copy everybody should have a couple of them around the house.
