Prince Charles in his youth was also a decent fellow. It wasn’t until he started talking to plants, getting married and becoming an uneducated bore about architecture, organic farming and the joy of slum living, that he turned into a massive freak. I blame the Queen for giving him that big house Highgrove and Diana for making him give up polo and attempting unsuccessfully to try to get rid of the part in his hair. This, of course, was when he still had hair.
On the subject, Prince William is REALLY going bald at a young age.

Cults of Personality are evil, whether they be kings, politicians, entertainers, or sports figures.

Diana Spencer improved the line as far as I’m concerned.

“These Aren’t Special People’: Seinfeld...”

####

I never saw anything even remotely “special” about your hugely overrated sitcom either Seinfeld, but I won’t begrudge you the millions you made from those who did.

So the Brits like their Royal pomp and circumstance. Let them be. Its their thing, and we are free to ignore it, unlike the homefront Communist theft that limousine liberals like you, so adamantly support. Now, THAT’S what is “absurd”.

Being a comedian, or for that matter, doing any other job --takes work. Seinfeld has been enormously succesful at his chosen vocation, and that takes talent and work. He wasn't born into having one of the most successful TV shows in history, regardless of wehther the show is objectively any good or not.

The royals getting married have accomplished nothing deserving of attention. It takes no work or effort to be born a prince. The fact that so many people get emotionally invested in people they've never met, purely because of their accident of birth and not because they've actually accomplished anything, strikes me as just odd.

One wedding had to be postponed because John-John killed himself, his wife, and his sister in law because he insisted on flying on his own...thus leading to more drama and media attention...

>>The NTSB determined that the probable causes of this accident were the pilot’s failure to maintain control of the airplane during a descent over water at night, which was a result of spatial disorientation. Factors in the accident were haze, and the dark night.

Ironically enough the plane crashed not far from Martha’s
Vineyard. “The Kennedy Triangle”...?

Yes. But his body of work is so shallow and vapid, I find it amazing he can look in the mirror in the morning after criticizing someone else for being shallow and vapid.

<><><><><<>

It is his job to shine a light on, and poke a stick at, this kind of stuff. I think you are still confusing who he is with what he does.

LOL. Referring to a comics work as shallow and vapid is almost true by definition. Have you ever been to a comedy club? Most used word: the f bomb.

For depth of commentary and insight, comics are not a good choice.

I’m sorry about that, the link works for me, so I don’t know what’s causing the problem. It was just an article speculating on succession — there are many others.

What a lot of folks fail to realize, to include Seinfeld, royal weddings are real money makers for the British...tourism and all that goes with it. They are not stupid.

It would be interesting to know how much revenue Diana’s funeral brought to London. It was not meant to be such a spectacle. It took on a life of its own. It just grew and grew and plans had to be changed. It caught the royals by surprise. Since they didn’t care for Diana, they thought the rest didn’t think much of her either. London was packed. Folks flew in from all over. It was astronomical.

Some funerals are not. I don’t think Charles would get such tears if he dropped dead…or his wife…or both at the same time..

Royal weddings are good, smart business.

Ask Donald Trump.

Yes, another Kennedy wedding disaster. If I remember correctly, wasn’t John being jeered at by one of his cousins at that famous “compound” to defy the fog or he’d be a wuss? That may be an urban rumor but it was common at the time.

I don’t know but online I saw that their flight was delayed because his sis-in-law got delayed at work. So they got started late and then they all were ... “late” (flying over ocean at night, inexperienced). It was get-there-itis...he could have quickly flown in the next morning but...

No, I don’t think Camilla is going to get the same reaction, lol! I am friendly with a London couple who felt compelled to walk to Buckingham Palace that week to place flowers. They are not particularly Royal lovers (one being from Yorkshire which is notoriously anti-Royal old Labour) but they were deeply affected by her death. People may laugh, but I put a small bouquet outside the NY consulate that week - I was not the only one. I had been a fan of Diana’s since 1980. I also had a boss who met her at an event in NYC. He gathered his entire staff in his office to relate the tale. For whatever reason, she bewitched people.

Never get into a car, plane or boat with a Kennedy.

When Camille Paglia still had her Salon column (oh, how I miss it!) she related that she was near the little airport that night when he departed. She was having dinner with her family. She wrote about the fog and was shocked out of her wits when she found out he flew that night.

If you think comics don’t have something insightful to say, I guess you never saw Mort Sahl in a nightclub.
