Oh, please. Very few people are invested emotionally in the Royals (although I was a huge fan of Diana). They tune into the weddings and coronations and funerals because of the English genuis for pageantry. The beauty of their traditions knock the socks off people - particularly anyone with an eye for beauty, design and bloody brilliant organization. Have you never visited a museum to look at Royal Egyptian art? Romanov art? Hapsburg art, design and the awe-inspiring Royal carriages?

Indeed, and one only need see the police report written by Patches after his R.I. fender bender (just before the 2:30 am Ambien incident in DC). Would anyone hitch a ride with a guy who writes like this?

The depiction of Jews with less-than-human, animal-like characteristics used by anti-semites for centuries to justify persecution. Just hit a nerve.

And the best to you!

I suddenly remember the beautiful funeral of Princess Grace in which Barber’s Adagio for Strings was played. As that incredibly emotional music reached its peak, Diana began to cry. I don’t think she knew Grace Kelly very well but it was one affecting moment. I was a puddle.

Poor Di only got “Candle in the Wind” for hers!!

Who can forget our own royal family? Those beautifully-orchestrated weddings where Uncle Teddie probably threw up on the bride and Papa Joe probably raped the maid of honor! How I long for those old days before we abolished the Kennedys!

I had a co-worker who once described the Kennedys as: "The family that has its own wing in Hell."

I thought it fit them perfectly.

Camle, perhaps you could state your intended context of your post to clear up any misunderstanding.

Why a huge fan of Diana?

They tune into the weddings and coronations and funerals because of the English genuis for pageantry. Sure, I've visited museums to look at that stuff. But we're not talking about visiting museums here. People are excited about "the wedding" right now, when they're not seeing a moment of that pagaentry. I don't obsess about going to a museum for months before I actually go. And when I go, I'm seeing the stuff in person, up close. Those who watch are going to be seeing this stuff on TV. So to use your analogy, it's like being excited for months about watching a Discovery Channel special on Hapsburg art. So I don't find that explanation all that convincing

It's just that it's the Royals!. A PRINCESS!! And the glamour of watching a bunch of pampered people dress up. It's the Kennedy worship with a better accent, less alcohol, and no rapes.

“’These Aren’t Special People’”

They have more class than our rulers - that’s why they didn’t invite them.

Yes. Thank you for that reminder about Grace and Diana attending her funeral.

“Candle in the Wind” was a tad low class for the occasion...I’m a big classical music fan myself.

Hilarious. Thanks for the reminder that there is always someone out there who will take a general statement absolutely literally.

Forgive me for not qualifying my comments thusly: the huge majority of comics could easily be described as shallow and vapid, while a tiny minority have something insightful to say.

Well, just the fact that you call great art “stuff,” tells me you’re just not that into it. That’s OK; we all have our own interests. By the way, I’d be happy to watch a program on Hapsburg art on tv.

It’s the media that obsesses over these Royal Weddings not people who watch them. And why shouldn’t there be an audience for them? They’re beautifully orchestrated and we women want to see what Kate Middleton is going to wear without snide remarks from Joan Rivers. It’s also fun and educational. Americans who don’t get to travel will see London at its most polished and impressive. They will get to see Westminster Abbey in all its glory. I just don’t believe it’s all about a Princess. Personally, I think Kate Middleton is a fairly attractive, anorexic girl who is marrying a prematurely bald young man.

I loved Diana Spencer because I thought she was one of the most glamorous and beautiful women I had ever seen - especially in a Brit, lol! I felt the same way about Elizabeth Taylor. I’m a sucker for beauty.

By the way, if you think the Royal Brits don’t drink like a Kennedy, you didn’t pay much attention to Princess Margaret, lol!

Well, if you hit the comedy clubs on a regular basis you tend to see alot of dreck before you see the greats. The last time I was in one, Jackie Mason was trying out some new material (this was in the boonies). He was brilliant! My husband saw Andy Kaufman before he was famous and said he was a frigging genuis (I believe it). Oddly enough, I saw Robin Williams at the Improv in L.A. in the late 1970s - before “Mork and Mindy” and didn’t like him!

Who have you seen?

I never considered sienfield to be of any particular religion, my comment was in reference to him putting his foot into his mouth, or as we sometimes call it “hoof in mouth” disease.

Most of my comic watching has been on television (and not a whole lot of that either) ... if I’m gonna spend money on a live show it will 99.9999% of the time it will be live music. When I do go to a comedy club, it is more for the hanging with friends than the comics.

I really was not trying to make a deep point, or to cast all comics into the same bucket. Some are funny, some are funny with insight, some are just not funny at all.

My wife is all excited about watching those pampered people dress up in all their outfits for a TV spectacle. As for me, I'll be watching the NBA playoffs instead, or maybe a baseball game.

You know, the stuff that really matters, that doesn't involve pampered people dressing up for TV spectacles.

Oh, wait....
