From what I have read hear at FR the original article from AP did not contain "Kenyan-Born" but one paper in the Chicago area or in Illinois used the term when it used the AP article.

If I have this wrong I am sure a more knowledgeable FReeper will correct me.

I don’t know. It’s irrelevant.

If the AP is the origin, why isn’t FOX News covering this?

I used to work in a library and had access to newspapers from all over the USA. I collected articles on various subjects and was amazed at how different newspapers publish the same AP story. Based on which AP paragraphs were printed in a specific newspaper, you could easily identify the left or right bias of the particular newspaper. Headline wording accompanying AP stories seems to also be up to the individual newspaper. By printing only part of the AP story, the newspaper has the ability to modify the slant.

No, it didn't. The "Kenyan-born" part was added by the paper in Africa, presumably to increase local interest. There are other versions of the article as published in San Diego and Seattle papers that don't contain that phrase.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthers/ap.asp

I tend to believe the Snopes take on this.

Newspaper standard MO is to keep body copy intact - cases where body copy is rewritten or edited are often noted as “AP reports and writer XYZ contributed to this report.”

Headlines are a different story. In almost every case, the headline for AP or other wire stories are rewritten by the local editor.

I see it every day as a PR professional. Headlines are almost always written by someone other than the person who wrote the report under them. It has been this way for years, maybe forever.

Hey, stuff disappears. There was supposed to be a videotape somewhere of a debate between Barry and Amb Keyes where his birth was brought up. The stories goes that Keyes challenged Barry’s birth, and Barry supposedly said something to the effect that, “Yeah, but I’m running for Senate, not the White House”. That tape supposedly went away.

LFC - I dont know the answer to your question, but there is (was) a FREE REPUBLIC member - think his code name is Davey Crocket. 2 weeks ago, he sent links to SIX African new articles referring to BO being born in Kenya. The day I received it, I was able to access all six docs. Since then only one or two ! UG ! I haven’t seen him of the site recently, but I believe the obamafile.com site also had several images, but last time I checked, a few were either missing or “scrubbed” ? This annoys me, because I always throught there was something to that...even though many are not bothering with the Kenyan Birth theory, there really is a LOT of indications that it was (and still could possibly be) a viable true story.
