Repent. A good word, necessary to Christianity.

While I'm not here to defend the Episcopal Church I assume you are unfamiliar with Rite 1 used during the period of Lent:

Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
maker of all things, judge of all men:, We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins, and wickedness,
which we from time to time most grievously have committed, by thought, word, and deed, against thy divine Majesty, provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us.
We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings;
the remembrance of them is grievous unto us, the burden of them is intolerable.
Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father;
for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, forgive us all that is past;
and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life,
to the honor and glory of thy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Assuming they went to church during Lent which I believe they did I think there may have been some repenting going on.

You might also ponder on John 8:7

“You might also ponder on John 8:7”

How about pondering it in context...

“7And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. 9But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

Not, “Go and sin at will, for who can condemn you?” The couple very publicly shacked up for 8 years, and have not indicated in any way that they have repented of doing so. Western civilization was not built on shacking up. Suppose Kate got fat 4 years ago, or came down with a serious disease - do you think she would still be getting married today?
