I don’t think it will matter in the long term, because as the Android base continues to grow, so will the app developers.

Also, considering the 99 majority of apps are often used just once or twice, I don’t see it as a disadvantage necessarily.

Bottom line, Apple isn’t any different than any other large company, including Microsoft.

There is at least one significant difference between Apple and Microsoft. Apples makes more money than Microsoft. There may be other differences if we start to look at the specific details of the companies.

The Kindle is slow and clunky to navigate.

Two-times out of every three, the word I want to lookup is not in either of the provided dictionaries that come with Kindle.

Charts and tables are rendered so small on Kindle they are impossible to read.

And Kindle’s magnifying feature is clunky and slow to navigate, so I’ve had to resort to using an old-fashioned magnifying glass to read them.

When I recently finished reading my first book on Kindle, I was relieved that the next book I started to read was a real book printed on real paper.

After Kindle, reading a real book again is like eating a great home-cooked meal after having lived on canned food.

One of the great things about Android is that you’re not locked to a single market like iOS. What Apple is doing with in-app purchases would not be possible on Android without some serious changes to the structure of the OS itself. It’s doubtful Google would ever make those kinds of changes.

There are more Window users than Apple users.

He’s just playing nice, hoping for the day when Apple users can rise up suddenly and bludgeon Window users to death.

Then there will be peace.

I was debating betwen a new iMac and a fully loaded Dell (for a lot less money). Looks like I’ll stick with Dell for awhile. The wife had an older iMac and one is enough for our house.

Wow. They may make good products but their business practices make Microsoft look like choir boys.

And one more thing—those tiny keys on Kindle’s keypad have convex faces.

It would be much better if they had concave faces.

Concave faces, like on sensible telephone touch-dials and on computer keyboards, help to keep your fingertips centered on the keys when you press them.

Whereas the convex (or pointy) faces on Kindle’s keypad tend to do force your fingers off the key you're aiming for and onto a neighboring key if you're not very careful.

iFlowreader has just been impatient about the issue.

Impatient? Jeeze. How long are they supposed to be patient and operate with zero profit margin (actually negative once you get into adding in expenses). This almost makes me think Apple is based in Chicago, they run their business like Chicago politics.

Android? You mean Google, which tracks your every move and sells your info to 3rd party data mining companies for a profit?

I’m not concerned about them data mining me. My internet use is fairly mundane and non-profitable.

Jim does not want to be bothered with coming in and having to clean up after them again.

Then you and the rest of your sisters should quit whining to him and the mods every time you get your feelings hurt.

This policy went into place about a month ago... and they are already shutting down? Yes, I think that is impatient. They have acted precipitously and are closing down their operation. Perhaps they don't have the where-with-all to operate very long... he says he was funding the operation to the tune of $30K per month out of his pocket. I don't think his business model was working in the first place. He was competing against the big boys to begin with and, yes, he had a good reader, but he was a small player who it looks like was not turning a profit. There are a HOST of book readers out there... I had not heard of his product... so he really is not a major player on the market no matter how much he claims he is. He should have filed a restraint of trade suit... and gotten an injunction, and waited for this to settle out.

Then you and the rest of the trolls should not be attacking people... and slinging insults like "sisters" and claiming "whining." Give it a rest... and discuss technical issues as the warning says... and Jim's policy directs.

Still think they’re going to suddenly decide to fix it?

You can stop throwing my name around. I didn’t agree to anything. Was simply trying to stop some of the constant flamewars associated with your Apple groupie threads. We’re not going to give special consideration to every thread on FR that mentions Apple. Thanks.

A policy that forces retailers to sell their products through Apple’s in-app system, thereby guaranteeing Apple’s 30% cut, which in many cases is more profit than the retailer itself is making. This kind of policy might make sense for products actually purchased on the market, as it ensures Apple gets paid for promotion/bandwidth on its market, but once the app is actually on the phone, Apple enforces a policy that hurts business for no other reason than to enrich Apple. In the long run, I think it’s going to drive developers away.
