You need to fashion one about the 2000 Supreme Court decision on Gore v. Bush. Every lib I run into thinks the Supreme Ct declared Bush President where (I think — but if wrong, know I’ll be informed here soon) that the Supreme Ct ruled that Gore could not hand pick which counties to re-count instead of re-counting the entire state.

1) How many USSC judges concurred with the findings in Bush v. Gore? (7, of which, 5 concurred as to remedy)

2) What was the remedy granted in Bush v. Gore? (selective recounts not allowed, rules could not be changed after the election)

Technically speaking, US troop involvment in Vietnam began under Ike in 1956 with the US Military Assistance Advisor Group (MAAG). The first US service members to die in the conflict, Major Dale R. Buis and Master Sergeant Chester M. Ovnand, were killed in 1959.

Actually, you left out the most important part of the decision - as demonstrated by later recounts that showed Bush won anyway, even with the unfair and selective rules.

The most important part of the decision was that the Gore protest would not be allowed to go on long enough to put Florida's Electoral College Votes in dispute at the time the Electoral College met.

In other words, as you mentioned, the Supreme Court said an uneven recount was unacceptable under equal protection (7 justices concurring) and also that there was not time to have a 'fair' recount without compromising Florida's electoral college votes (5 justices concurring).

This is key. If they had not decided that, then 1) the controversy would have continued, and 2) Gore would have had grounds for challenging the Florida electoral votes entirely and demanding that the president be selected based on the 'valid' electoral votes . . . of which he had a majority if Florida were excluded. Gore's strategy from about the end of the automatic machine recount (which also showed he lost) was to get the electoral college to vote without Florida, and then - from the position of having the majority of the electoral votes cast - claim victory.

This was an issue of the calendar as much - or more - than an issue of the votes. The Supreme Court decision fixed both parts of that controversy/strategy.
