I try to review this list every few years and see what I have read, and what the Naval Academy is advising our Sailors and Marines to read for a well rounded life education. I have read about 20% of the books on this list, but I would like to hear what other Freepers see on the list that is noteworthy. There are also 2 other lists from the Nimitz Library with course books if you are interested you can go to the website and search on what is current course work for the Midshipmen.

And to all active duty and former military personnel, Thank You for your service.

Long ago, my brother, an Army Lt Col, brought an Ayn Rand West Point speech to my attention. That speech is now available on line at http://www.tracyfineart.com/usmc/philosophy_who_needs_it.htm

Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith.

I still haven’t finished this and I’ve had the book more than 20 years.

I wish my grandkids were going to attend a college where the professors would recommend these books.

As could be expected when asking for personal preferences, there is much esoterica. Personally, I would likely enjoy the classes of profs. William B. Garrett and Brian VanDerlark (sp.). I would stay well clear of LT Sean Fahey and the two female English professors. Unless I missed it somewhere, I am surprised there was not a single mention of Orwell and his works.

I saw The Once and Future King pop up there several times. It had a profound impact on me when I read it in high school. I need to read it again. Thanks for the reminder.
