When all hell breaks loose: Lightning tears the sky apart above the glow of the Chilean volcano
Daily Mail ^ | 12:25 PM on 6th June 2011 | By Daily Mail Reporter

Flames reach up to the heavens as lightning flashes criss-cross the sky.

These extraordinary images show the full force of Mother Nature as a Chilean volcano erupts for the first time in 50 years.

Ash has been thrown six miles up into the sky and the South American government has ordered the evacuation of thousands of residents.

Winds fanned the ash toward neighbouring Argentina, darkening the sky in the ski resort city of San Carlos de Bariloche, in the centre of the country, and its airport has also been closed.

I wonder how many Priuses this eruption just negated.

My bet is every one that was ever made, or will ever be made.

Wonderful pictures. As an aside, I wonder how much C02 is being emitted and how many years of globull warming restrictions are wiped out in a few days?

While The Won lowers the sea level, and he and his buddy Algore lower the urf’s fever, aren’t they also going to trap volcanoes and sequester all that gas?

First of all I want to thank God that He created our world with plate tectonics and volcanic activity. Without volcanoes continuously replenishing our atmosphere, our planet would be as dead as the moon.

Second, go read the comments after the article. One poster is commenting on how this one eruption is spewing more CO2 into the air than all human activity, and he is being attacked for having gotten his info from some “crank” website. One of the attacks mentions that “human activity is responsible for 100 times the amount of CO2 produced by all volcanoes.” The ignorance of the global warming crowd is truly mind boggling.

Thanks for the post, some really amazing photo’s.

My son does time lapse photography and it is an artform. With today’s digital cameras it is pretty amazing what you can do and how fast you can see the results.

But for some things the old fashioned film camera’s are still the thing. Few use them any more though.

This is not news. We have spectacular video of the May 1980 Mt. Saint Helens eruption with spectacular lighting bolts in the huge volcanic plume. I believe they saw that also during the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991.

I saw that liar's post too. "One hundred times the amount". Exactly because the unspecified "science" tells us so. At least when they make bald-faced lies, you would think they would pick a number other than a nice round one-hundred. Perhaps the liar could explain the Year Without A Summer of 1816 without invoking any mention of volcanoes or Mount Tambora.

Their currency of lies has inflated to Zimbabwe levels and surely there must soon be a crash.

(I have skied Bariloche-- in my misspent yout'.)

I have often speculated that, since Grace does not blot out but perfects nature, God caused and then used such an event for some of the theophanies of the Old Testament. Psalm 18:6-14 comes to mind (once I do a little discrete checking of sources.)

Any chance the ash will block enough sunlight to cool things down?

There's certainly a "chance" that it will. Mt. Pinatubo had some measurable global climatic effects for a few years. Wait and see how long this one erupts, and how much ash it injects into the stratosphere.
