A good, VERY high tech security system is no longer a luxury, it's a must--regardless the general safeness of neighborhood anymore--especially if you DON'T have a good safe for all papers and firearms. Sad but true.

Receiving the instantanious "should we sent police" (or firemen) phone call from the monitoring company, if your house has been breached (or is burning) while you're out of town, is worth the cost in spades--cottage or mansion.

Also, NOT receiving a phone call from the security monitoring company while out of town, in itself brings a certain level of peace of mind...which is ALWAYS welcome when away and trying to relax or not worry about what’s going on at home.
