LAUSANNE, Switzerland – Officials with knowledge of the decision say NBC has retained the U.S. Olympic television rights in a four-games deal through 2020 worth more than $4 billion.

The two officials spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the decision has not yet been officially announced by the International Olympic Committee.

NBC won a three-way bidding contest against ESPN and Fox. It will have exclusive rights to the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the 2018 Winter Games and 2020 Olympics, whose sites have not yet been chosen.

Looks like I'll have to bring back my Olympic tagline.

New Olympic tagline Shut up, Bob Costas. Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

Awwww..how sweet it is when you are a sellout crony and propagandist for the marxists in the White House.

Pay attention folks...this is how you now get somewhere in America now....either suck up to the commie overlords or get a hand-out from the crime syndicate sitting in the WH!

God Help Us!

The Olympics have been unwatchable since ABC gave up the broadcasts.

In light of your Costas remark... did you hear SeeBS Sports has hired Marv Albert to do NFL (if they have a season)? - Only thing more nauseating than Marv is his offspring on Fox.

I was hoping ABC/ESPN would get the bid. Now we have to put up with watching events that everyone knows the results to since they occurred almost a day before the TV airing.

Watch for some sort of “embargo” against “unauthorized” broadcasting online of events. Watch for proposals of several governments getting together to criminalize such broadcasts, in cooperation with the UN.

They have to do whatever it takes to protect their monopoly.

How can anybody get excited about synthetic sports like synchronized snowboarding aerobatics? (Or whatever else that the IOC approves for the next Olympics)

My favorite sports in the winter Olympics are those where opponents share the track and can crash: hockey, short track speed skating, some snowboard racing event. Next time I want wide track bobsledding with four sleds on the track at once. And if they insist that equestrian events are real sports, at least have some circus maximus style chariot racing in the summer.

It’ll probably be the same way they’ve been doing it, taking over most of their channels. Of course now that they’re owned by comcast they also have VS. If you stay away from NBC proper there’s some cool sports at the olympics, and good coverage actually, no Bob, no fireplace, no weepy “human interest” stories.

Totally agree. They actually covered the events and gave equal coverage to all the players. Now, NBC covers it as if it’s the US Olympics. Can you magine how they would cover Munich, now?

May have to invest in whatever system gets me Canadian and European coverage. NBC’s sucks.

NBC turns their coverage into a two week Oprah production. Like most television today, it’s geared toward women.

NBC - Five minutes of Olympics (usually curling, synchronized swimming, zzzzzzzzzz), to be followed by ten minutes of commercials. Repeat 4X per hour.
Oh yeah, don't forget to throw in a 20 minute "up close and personal" with some Euro-nobody.
Borrrrrrrrrrrrrr-ing!

Agreed on Ice Hockey. Just try finding it on the modern network Olympic telecast. You really don't see very many of the games prior to the medal round. You're lucky to catch highlights. Same goes for boxing in the Summer Games.

My favorite Olympic Memories... The US Olympic Boxing Team of 1976 (Montreal) and of course the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team. We saw almost all of those matches/games back then. Can't say that now. Instead I know what Shawn White does in his off-hours (like I give a d@mn).

The Olympics are going to be terrible if NBC still has the rights. Even more so with Ebersol gone.

ABC/ESPN can do an excellent job of handling it.
