Need To Find A Wool Carpet Cleaning Product

Need help finding a wool carpet cleaning product. Having trouble finding a brand.

My research shows it needs to be pH neutral [or close to it], should NOT leave a sticky residue, and NOT contain any bleach or dye.

I have found one product [Orbit ph Neutral Wool Carpet Cleaner] - but it is from the UK and can only be ordered from there.

Would like to find domestic manufacturer of a like product or domestic distributer for Orbit.

Any help appreciated !!!

Nature’s Miracle will get out pet urine and doggy throw-up stains from a wool carpet.

Depending on the amount of staining, you may want to figure out if it’s easier and cheaper to cut the carpet out and either replace it or put down cheap vinyl tile.

Spray it with cans of Spot Shot. Really great stuff to take out any stain I ever had. Usually available at Lowe’s or Walmart etc.

You might try White Wizard to remove any blood stains.

(Checking carefully for color fastness on a inconspicuous spot.)

Maybe you can borrow a Hoover carpet extractor?

Hoover makes a detergent that is safe for wool and silk rugs.

I mix it 3 ounces to a quart of water and mist it on the rug with a spray bottle. Then go over it with the brushes turning.

Let it sit about 5-8 minutes, then use the water extraction to get the soap and dirt out.

You don't want the rug too wet.

Have you looked into “Host” brand cleaners. I did carpet cleaning with it years ago, and it worked well and safely on wool and expensive Persian rugs.

renovator foaming shampoo in my shop.
Any vacuum repair shop should have it or
can get it. Works on any type carpet, even
Oriental rugs. Hope this helps.

Personally, I would try cold water and Dawn dish detergent first. I would use a wet vac and that would remove the water immediately so it didn’t spread even more. Please accept my condolences on the death of your friend. I can’t imagine what this 90 year old is going through. Although I don’t need to know details, if there was a tremendous amount of blood, I would be more concerned with pathogens etc... and removal may be necessary if that is the case. You are very kind to help out your neighbor.

I would think you could use just the steamer without any cleaning product at all. Best thing would be to spot clean any areas that need it and use the steamer over everything.
Try it in one small area you wouldn’t notice first tho to make sure the dye would be okay with it.

OTOH the carpet has potentially been treated with something to prevent moths or mold and you might be removing that.

If it’s blood, I’m not sure anything will remove the stains.

When it comes to spot-cleaning carpets, though, we’ve found something that has worked 100% of the time is Dawn used in a Bissel Little Green machine. We’ve bought every carpet-specific concoction in the stores, but they’ve only been partially effective.

Now I dilute the concentrated blue Dawn with water to where it can be sprayed easily. I spray the area(s), wait about a half-hour, then spray LOTS of water. Then use the machine to suck the stuff out. Since Dawn is still so concentrated, suds collect in the machine for a while. Keep spraying with water, then vacuum it out, as many times necessary until no more suds.

It works for us with misc. stains — especially pet-related. Never tried with blood, but a new carpet might be in order.

Could tell you out of my own pro experience, but it’s 25 years out of date and the products I used are probably not available anymore.

Dish detergents will most definitely leave a residue.

have you tried a shop vac and Woolite? It won’t get red Koolaid stains out, but it’s gotten about everything else out, and it’s cheap to try. Might also use Oxyclean, before or after the Woolite, and with the shop vac. I’ve had good success with Oxyclean on blood stains.

mix up a gallon or so with cold water, spray it on, scrub it in with a brush, vacuum it out, and respray & vacuum with clear water a few times to get the residue out.

I’ve got some wool/cotton hand & machine-made Turkish carpets, acquired in the mid-80’s, and have raised three kids, and several dogs and cats, on them.
