Without that qualification it sounds like you're trying to say he spent his entire childhood and adolescence outside USA.
Personally, I wouldn't consider six to ten the most formative stage of youth. 10 to 18 a lot more important. He spent those years in HI.

Actually there is no evidence whatsoever of a Hawaii birth. Zero. All the evidence points to Kenya.
