Scotty McCreery has been very vocal about his Christian faith since the beginning of American Idol, so why not manifest it in his upcoming debut album?
The young country artist revealed in an interview this week that he hopes to follow in Josh Turners footsteps and include at least one Christian song in his upcoming album.
One thing I love about Josh Turner is his faith, thats why I looked up to him so much, he told The Boot.
The 17-year-old North Carolina native continued, "All the albums he's had have had at least one Christian song, like 'The Answer' on his last album and 'Long Black Train.' So I'm hoping to have that on my album that one Christian song."
He is currently in the process of choosing songs for his first album, where songwriters like Rhett Akins and Dallas Davidson have been offering a few of their ideas. Honored and flattered by the contributions, he shared, I'm loving all of them!
We had a meeting with some publishers the other day, and they were throwing songs and demos my way, McCreery said in the interview. Ive been taking a look at all of them, so if youre reading this, guys keep em coming! Were enjoying it; were starting the album process right now and just excited to see the finished product.
He said the public should expect an old flavor and old sound in his songs but they will also have a contemporary feel to it.
McCreery was crowned winner of season 10 of "American Idol" in May. His first single, I Love You This Big, reached No. 1 on iTunes singles chart soon after. Most recently, he performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage last week with Lauren Alaina, who placed second in American Idol.
He really does have a beautiful and strong voice AND he seems like a very nice young man. I hope his album does great!
I was surprised this year, given that there was so much talent on the stage. I was a Casey Abrams fan, and when he was voted off, I figured James Durbin would take it all. Scotty McCreery has a great voice, given by God and made for country music. Hope he does well - I’ll buy his album.
I really like him. He’s got a great voice. I’ll buy his album. I wish he and Lauren Alaina would also do a CD of duets. I think that would sell like hotcakes!
I’m not a country fan or a Christian, but I just love this guy. He’s uniquely talented, conservative, cute, confident, and has a great sense of humor. I hope he has a 50-year successful career and stays true to his values.
So many North Carolinians and southerners in general do well on that show because they grew up singing in church. This is no surprise at all.
Don’t know the ins and outs of the AI recording contract, could be that it’s not possible, but McCreery should hook up with fellow NCer Ronnie Bowman for some material. Went to high school with him, very genuine and down to earth, you’ve all heard and loved his work.
