I agree with the others. You can legally ship a firearm from one state to another to yourself without going through an FFL. Got a friend where you are going? Just ship it to yourself in care of him/her. If you are going on a hunt, ship it to your guide.
I was just going to ask that. It seems that you shouldn’t need to go through an FFL if it isn’t a sale. You ought to be able to send it to a friend to hold for you till you get there.
Now that I think about it... I already did this years ago. I shipped a handgun home, to myself, from Alaska.
