Mozilla Puts Out Firefox 5.0 Web Browser

It was only in late March when Mozilla released Firefox 4.0, but under their new development practices that are similar to that of Google's Chrome web-browser, Firefox 5.0 was released yesterday.

Firefox 5 is delivered under what Mozilla refers to as a "rapid release development cycle" and this release carries over 1,000 improvements in just about three months of development. Among the changes this time around is the Do-Not-Track privacy feature for the Android port of Firefox, improved add-ons, CSS Animations support, and many other new features.

Did it to me too.
I hate that automagic upgrade crap. It should always be optional.

I mean it’s running ok, but still, it’s my computer, not theirs.

There oughta be a law!!

Why should there be a law? We have too damn many of them already.

Check Tools/Options/Advanced/Update

You can turn off the automatic updates there.

I tried Google Chrome, but had absolutely no use for it. So I got rid of it.

I am a mainframe systems programmer for over 25 years, working mostly with IBM and various third party software vendors.

Do you know what would happen in the mainframe world if some vendor said “Well, you have to plug this IP address or this URL into the software so it can do automatic updates whenever.”

As a systems person, I know what I’d say. And I know what the management team responsible for RAS would say, the user community would probably chime in also, and tell the vendor to take a flying leap, cancel all licenses, and make darn sure that all traces of the product was scrubbed from the host before the weekend!

And I work with people on the server side taking care of SAP and Oracle, and they would tell them the same thing.
We will do it on our time WHEN WE ARE READY and WHEN WE ARE AWARE OF ALL THE POSSIBLE RAMIFICATIONS!

PERIOD!

Don’t lump me in with them. I bloody well chose it and manually updated it.

I wasn’t lumping anyone.

Thing is, since the advent of PC’s, there has been an explosion of people using computers who know almost nothing about them. And the software has evolved with a “lowest common denominator” mentality, trying to make it “easy” for everyone.

Big businesses pushing out millions of dollars of products and services every day simply do not tolerate the surprises.

All Points Help Bulletin:

Just picked up a used emachine computer with Windows 7 installed. Naturally, when I downloaded Firefox, it loaded the newest version, but I’ve got a few problems that are giving me the itch.

1. My mouse wheel won’t scroll pages any longer (works in other applications and programs).
2. Can’t change the font on FR with the tools in the Options tab.
3. Posting window on FR is automatically minimized down to almost nothing.
4. Cursor is invisible.
5. Enter key doesn’t create space between paragraphs like normal.
6. Forms on some web pages (such as Yahoo and Facebook) are so small, that I can’t type in them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: All Points Help Bulletin

I just finished downloading a huge battery of automatic updates from Microsoft, and all of the issues I mentioned in my earlier post are now magically gone.

Perhaps everything in my computer needs to settle down and get meshed together. The entire works is new, and I’ve been working to configure all sorts of stuff all day.

One little problem that still seems to be hanging, is that Firefox won’t save my previous session. I’ve got to get in there and see if I set something the wrong way to.

Other than that, so far, so good (fingers crossed!)
