I think that Baez rested his case and was ready to go to closing and verdict. It is Ashton who thinks he is losing. For the state to go in to extensive rebuttal is done because the State is scared that their case in chief was ruined by the defense. There is no other reason for it. I think Ashton has a good reason to be scared. He has been trying to prove theories of a Bungled investigation that a really bad lawyer like Baez has shot full of holes.

From what I’ve seen in other cases, it’s a matter of “you can’t kick a man when he’s down enough.” The State is making sure its rebuttal is effective.
