[and the trigger is reasonably easy to adjust.]

Why on earth would you want to lighten the pull on a hunting rifle? This renders them dangerous to carry in the field. Most 6 to 7 pound standard pulls are there for safety and are still adequate to make a good and well placed shot.

Tampering with any sport/hunting rifle is stupid as explained above, as well as completely unnecessary.

Unless you are a tournament shooter, shooting from a bench under tightly controlled range instructions and rules, don't even consider rendering your hunting rifle into something very dangerous, by “adjusting” the trigger.

Not completely accurate. Most factory triggers are set on the high end for liability as much as they are for safety. While +6 pounds is adequate for greater than minute of angle accuracy and ranges within 150 yards the trigger pull is not very crisp in all rifles. Remington has an excellent trigger at nearly all settings as well as Savage while Ruger and Winchester can be a little rough other than pre 70 models. Weatherby are very nice. Adjusting down to 3 or 4 pounds is safe. Any safety minded hunter knows when to have a round chambered, when to engage the safety, and when to have their finger on the trigger only when ready to shoot with a target in sight and safe down range. For my varmint rifles shooting offhand or with shooting stix in the field 3 pounds is needed when shooting out past +500 yards. On my Ruger #1 in 45-70 but loaded with pressures and muzzle nergy exceeding and or matching factory .458 Winmag rounds in 400 gr bullets the triger is @ 4 pounds. For the inexperienced, inebriated, or mentally deficient hunter I would agree, never touch the trigger adjustment. For the experienced hunter who is safe and shooting non-dangerous game adjust away to your comfort level. For hunting dangerous game which is mostly done by experienced hunters they already know that you don't want or need a hair trigger. That is more of a balanced approach than to say never adjust the trigger I believe. Just saying....

Suit yourself buddy. If you're not good with trigger adjustment, then by all means, leave it alone. Thanks for the opinion all the same.
