check out some comments

—Many athletes swear by “Atlas Shrugged” as motivation and inspiration. They show good taste. :)

—ayn rand is evrything that is wrong with this country

—Which part is wrong? That people have the right to benefit from their work? That ability should be rewarded instead of punished? That what you know is more important than who you know?

—No disrespect to Mr. Cabrera, ‘cause I think he is the catalyst for this team this year, but Ayn Rand’s philosophy is antithetical to the idea of ‘team’. And I agree with Mack43 about what that means for our Country. Me, myself and I do not win championships, and more importantly, do not make a strong society.

—Baseball is a collection of me, myself and I. When Cabrera is in the batter’s box, HE’s the only one with a bat in his hand. When there’s a hard ground ball to him, HE’s the one who must field it. No matter who you put around him, HE must still do his job. Nobody else can help him, no matter how altruistic, no matter how politically-connected, no matter how willing they are to get their way by force or changing of rules to the expediency of the moment.

He only gets his chance while he remains better at his job than other options. When that is no longer the case, he’s out of a job. Meritocracy in action.

—I feel just the opposite. I think Ms. Rand is everything that is right about this country.

(Note from me: I can’t remember if it was A.S. or the Fountainhead but wasn’t there a character or two named after a ballplayer? A “Mr Stengel” or “Mr Gehrig”?

I guess you've never really been in relationship with a book.

This is my book. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My book is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
