What was to him a fun romp with a “what if...” premise ended up being a timeless classic.
Like Star Trek, there are so few of this still around.
RIP Sherwood — your humor stands up today as well as it did 40+ years ago.

I enjoyed Gilligan's Island.
Now who has messed up the clock on FR. I am posting this at 5:25PM and the clock is about 10 minutes faster.

If Mary Ann put on glasses, she'd look an awful lot like Sarah Palin.
Yes, I also prefer Mary-Ann to Ginger. Ginger is a bimbo.
To: Morgana
The characters he created were so durable, that they killed the careers of every actor on his shows.

Say what you will, Gilligan’s Island is a bazillion times better than the garbage that passes for TV shows today.

I wonder why my kids, 14 years old, has seen every stinkin’ episode of SpongeBob and all shows of that ilk, time after time, after time, after time...until I remember how many Gilligan’s Island episodes I knew by heart.

In the special features of the Season 1 DVD, Sherwood Schwartz tells a funny story about the casting.
They originally offered the role of Gilligan to Jerry Van Dyke. But Van Dyke’s agent advised him to turn it down, since he was sure the show would flop. The agent told Van Dyke to instead accept the starring role in a new NBC sit-com called “My Mother the Car.”

If you don't want your childhood memories ripped to shreds, for God's sake, don't look here.
And, yeah...I always thought Mary Ann was hotter, but looking back at the old pix, I think I'm more of a Ginger-head, now.

Lordy! I can still remember (and sing) the theme to “My mother the car.” I have no idea why. Theme songs seem to stick in my head for some reason...
I can’t recall a single episode, though...

I've heard that one before. But Bob Denver was just such a big part of the show, I couldn't imagine Jerry Van Dyke doing it as well and the show doing as well.
Then again, the first long-running show I saw JVD in was "Coach", so it took a while for him.
