Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich condemned Sen. Mitch McConnells last choice option plan for the federal deficit , calling it "irresponsible."
McConnells plan is an irresponsible surrender to big government, big deficits and continued overspending. I oppose it, Gingrich tweeted today.
The answer to Obamas irresponsibility is a principled no, not a blank check, Gingrich said in a second tweet.
At an event in Pella, Iowa Monday, Gingrich said defaulting would be a violation of the Constitution. Gingrich has argued for no tax increases in the debt negotiations and urged Republicans to hold firm on their requirement of deep spending cuts from Obama.
"Dont give him a penny more in debt ceiling than he accepts in spending cuts and if he only wants to accept enough spending cuts to get through the next 6 months thats fine. Then six months from now, youll have another fight and get another round of spending cuts from it, but insist that we turn the corner and we move on a trajectory that gets us back to a balanced budget and then stay on that balanced budget long enough to pay down the national debt," Gingrich said Monday.
No...make the second one $200billions...and the next $300billion
that seems reasonable enough.
I’d vote for that plan! It is reasonable! Pass one every month 100 billion each time. End of a year you have cut 1.2 trillion dollars!
then stay on that balanced budget long enough to pay down the national debt...”
...........................
What total B.S. We are 14 trillion in debt, with the Ryan Plan we end up 19 trillion in debt after the first ten years. If we ran 300 billion dollar surplus’ every year, in 30 years we would still be at least 10 trillion in debt. It will not ever get paid. That should not even start to be thought of as the objective.
Freeze the Ceiling. Thats all. Freeze the Ceiling. Afterwards the options available will be realistic.
F T C.
cutting down the size of the federal govt by forcing it to reduce spending is the goal. get it before it gets us if you follow.
Has the Newtster condemned anything Bambi it doing? or not doing?
If you use the current level of revenue inflows.
If, and only if, the government gets out of our way and our pockets like Texas is starting to do, businesses are taxed and regulated less, and getting rid of the capitol gains tax, money now secured off-shore would come back inot our country like a tidal wave.
Then the projections you speak of would be diminished greatly, especially with the 14 trillion plus that could potentially come back from the capitol gains elimination. Not to mention the dramatic rise in hiring all of the above would generate.
More taxpayers = more revnues. It works every time it is tried.
I don’t know and I don’t think it really matters but he is right about the McConnell plan. It’s total capitulation.
So Newt is assuming that spending will increase. Otherwise, why must the debt ceiling be raised ?
I agree with you. Unleash our enterpreneurial spirit and step back and watch something beautiful happen.
There is a fundamental difference between us and them. And if you want to see it more clear than ever.
The solution is actually very easy...Get enough truly conservatives in office to lower coporate and personal taxes that will encourage US businesses to employ here.
LISTEN TO THIS.
I bought some Travelpro luggage via the internet last week. Its beautiful luggage....the best Ive ever owned. I bragged about it, showed it to my friends...Buying it through Amazon, I got a good price...didnt pay tax on it... etc....
GUESS WHERE TRAVELPRO LUGGAGE IS MADE my friends?
VIET NAM!!!!!!!
I think McConnell is just giving Obama a glimpse of what his political campaign season might look like if he continues to push for tax increases.
Can a President really veto legislation that does *not* pass?
In this Arena Newt has street cred and I will go with him over Mitch.
The gobler makes me sick. Revolting to give bama more power.
The House’s primary power has been ‘the power of the purse’ and McConnell’s plan would basically get rid of the need for even having a Congress.
McConnell’s plan is beyond irresponsible.
Does KY have any measures for recalling an incompetent, imbecilic Senator?
