There is another phot from the side. No hand are in the way and there is no eye on the exposed left side of the critter. Having stated that, I’d be more inclined to believe this story if it had one eye where eyes are supposed to be. Why an eye would form where none had formed before is a stretch for me.

I’d like to see one of his siblings at this stage to compare the eyes. Not the placement of the eyes but the eyes themselves.
