Yeah it was hare brained decision. But lots of times LEO are given no choice when it comes to whether to enforce a law. They are told “no exceptions” and that it is up to the courts to decide if the enforcement had merit.

Sadly for every one who agrees fining the mom was dumb you will have someone wanting to know why she got away with breaking the law if she was not fined.

Don’t blame the LEO for being giving bad laws to enforce. Don’t blame them for being told to leave personal judgment out of it. Most LEO do not get to use such discretion any more.

While I understand your rebuttal, I would wonder if this points to a real problem of these agencies seeking to keep their stats up and funding / personnel safe. We see police cracking down on lemonade stands and Girl Scout cookie sales and have to ask if that a good use of LEO resources? Law Enforcement is to fight CRIME and this does not meet that criteria. If this mother fights this idiocy in court as I hope she will, it could end up costing these bureaucrats far more than just money, it will cost respect for fair dealing - an irreplaceable commodity.

Ah baloney, any LEO is isn’t willing to use their judgement should be run out of town.
