BADNAP? Wazzat?
Where I work, the big boss is the biggest jerk. He’s the kind of guy that, if you’re the only two people in the room, he won’t talk to you or make eye contact. And all the people he likes to put in positions of much responsiblity are almost as big of jerks as he is.
Life is way too short to revel in and foster resentment that is fabricated on purpose.
Anyway, this is a large defense contractor and corporate recently put out a letter stating that “we’ve done well in placing women in upper level management positions, but we need to do better at doing the same with people of color.” The affirmative action plan isn’t hush-hush anymore, it’s out in the open—and the company is suffering for it.
We’re about to layoff 300 more people the executive staff is having fun piting peer against peer. They laid off 160 back in March. I’m hoping the obama voters get wacked.
In this business, you can actually have a good time AND get the job done. I’ve done it for 33 years in spite of butt-heads like our big daddy bossman. I don’t sweat the small stuff—and it’s all small stuff.
I’ve worked with backstabbing assholes before. They may be assholes but they get the job done.
Here in Hollywood, being “nice” usually...doesn’t get the job done in MOST cases. The name of the game is getting your point across the loudest or you will not get the project greenlit.
In my other company jobs, which was customer service and sales, being nice and especially PROFESSIONAL was the key. But in my current industry, being nice does..not..cut it.
I agree with the rest. I'm in a supervisory role and I expect a lot from my colleagues BUT if we need to get out and blow off steam with a cocktail or just a quick coffee break, Ill often buy a round for the team. we can stop everything for lunch if we need to. Our management is OK with that on a long day.
“I guess its time to brush up on my asshole skills.”
Excuse me, while I go bitchslap my boss.
Keep us posted on how that turns out for you.
Don’t believe it? Two words — Ed Schultz.
