You have a very short memory span. Illegal immigration was every bit as big a controversy for conservatives back in 86 as it is today. Reagan's decision on that cause a lot of us who were big supporters of him considerable discomfort.

Reagan was as wrong as wrong could be on illegal immigration and amnesty back then and conservatives were very critical of his decision. We still loved him, because we weren't focused on just one issue and we recognized his greatness.

You are wrong. It wasn’t as big of an issue. There wasn’t the backlash in 1986 that there was in 2007, when they tried to pass that amnesty bill. Secondly, there weren’t as many illegals in the country in 1986, so it couldn’t have been as big of an issue.
