If you liked The King’s Speech, I would also highly recommend “The Gathering Storm”, which was a Made-for-HBO movie, starring Albert Finney as Churchill. Just fantastic.

I first stumbled across the Zatoichi films back when IFC used to do “Samurai Saturdays.” I was hooked in short order.

Although the first few were in black and white, the remaining series got the most from color and incredibly beautiful composition and framing. Every frame seemed like a still photo.

The anti-hero character of Zatoichi was the epitome of “walk softly but carry a big stick”, and was a perfect folk-hero for a nation still licking its wounds from its stunning defeat twenty years earlier.

Beautiful films that have held up very nicely, even with the passage of time.

Someone made a remake of Red Dawn last year, but it’s been on the shelf since the problems with MGM and Sony.

I wanna see if, but who knows if it will go straight to video?

They started off with the Chinese as the enemy then they went to the North Koreans. This rework they are changing it to rabid Ohio State fans, but everyone knows the Wolverines would be completely ineffective against them so now it's back to the drawing boards.

How about.. The Great Santini...

Sorry, but when it gets to the part where he discovers his pacifist son is having an interracial gay affair with the housemaid's son, I just start to snigger. Talk about piling on!

I just laugh watching Moonstruck. I’m of Italian extraction, it’s a rip.

I watched it with some people from the midwest once, and they turned to me and said, Italians aren’t really like that, are they? Ha! I love Nick Cage’s overacting in it. “I lost my hand! I lost my bride!”

I watched it with some people from the midwest once, and they turned to me and said, Italians aren’t really like that, are they? Ha! (Actually yes, Italians can overact in real life)

I forgot to mention a “woman’s film” I just love, Miss Potter. The closest thing to a tearjerker I’ll watch.

““The Lives of Others”, made in 2006. What was life really like behind the Iron Curtain? This movie, albeit fictional, shows the viewer...very well made, good story telling.”

Found it on youtube (14 parts, german w english subtitles) and started watching it - very well done.

Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, I caught the “30 year” thing after the posts.

It is Sunday, so my strict attention to these things is part time.
