A decorative mameluke sword was presented to the US navy by egypt(I think...it was a turk that presented it, but I believe he did so on behalf of egypt where he held political office) for appreciation of the US navy’s success in eradicating the barbary pirates from the Mediterranean. A copy of that ceremonial sword then became part of the US marine uniform and is to this day part of the marine parade uniform.
I chose this screen name right after 9-11 as my way to express support for the idea that the US government should formally declare war on alqaeda and the taliban. You see, at that time the media was claiming that declaring war on a non sovereign government entity was impossible. Well, the US government did formally declare war on the barbary pirates who were not a nation or government. So my screen name was also my way of mocking the media’s ignorance of historical facts...or did they intentionally misreport the facts?

In a nutshell, the MAMELUKESABRE is a war trophy of a war that the MSM claimed could never officially be declared. But it is historical fact that war was declared. And fought. And won.
However, it is now a moot point since war was never officially declared and never will be. But this will continue to be my screen name and I remain in my belief that war be declared. Also, I still relish sticking it to the media.
P.S. I use “sabre” instead of “sword” because to my eyes, the sword of the marine parade uniform looks very sabre-ish.
